Scope of Work

Background: 

Pacific Marine Group were engaged by GHD to undertake geotechnical investigations (Early Works) for the planned Western Border Outpost and Patrol Boat Base to be built in the Shortland Islands in Western Province of the Solomon Islands, as a foreign aid project by the Australian Defence Force.

Scope of Works:
  • International clearance and mobilisation of crane construction barge and tug from Townsville, QLD Australia to the Shortland Islands in the Solomon Islands. 
  • Operation of tug and crane construction barge to facilitate landside and marine drilling and geotechnical soil sampling works, inclusive of crew and accommodation.
  • UXO clearance of all Geotech sampling sites prior to soil disturbance.
  • Drilling of 6 x landside bore holes to 20m deep.
  • Excavation of 9 x landside test pits.
  • Drilling of 6 x marine bore holes up to 20m deep.
Subcontractors:

PMG were supported onsite by the following subcontractors:

  • Douglas Partners – Geotech site investigation/sample collection & sample testing on return to Australia,
  • OPEC Systems – UXO clearance, both on land and in water,
  • Geodrill – Drilling Rig/equipment and crew.
