PMG have completed installation of the North Stradbroke Island Artificial Reef.
The job involved installation of 38 concrete reef modules, each 5m tall, 4m square base, and weighing 17T, on the seabed off Point Lookout.
The job was a great success, with the design and fabrication of the 2 module moulds being completed in house at PMG's Townsville marine base. The 38 modules were then precast in our facility, cured, then loaded onto a barge (PMG183W), seafastened, and towed to site by Black Panther. The modules were placed by a 150T crawler crane, in very precise locations in 10m of water, in the shape of the Southern Cross.
The reef modules were reinforced using Emesh fibres, made from 100% recycled plastic with a direct saving of 95% carbon equivalent compared to reinforcing the modules with steel mesh.
