Work is completed on PMG’s Berth 10 mooring dolphin project at Port of Townsville.

First step was installation of 7 off raking piles, driven to around 30m penetration. Each pile is 960mm x 24mm wall and 40m long, installed at a rake angle of 1 in 4.5. These were installed from our PMG183W barge, which was fitted with our 280T Sumitomo crawler crane, 3 gate raking capable hydraulic piling frame, ICE 23RF vibrohammer and Junttan 14S impact hammer.

Piling and pile testing went well, and the crew then moved on to setting up the headstock falsework  and rebar installation in preparation for concrete headstock pours. The pours went well, and after the required curing period, the formwork was stripped and the dolphin furniture was installed, including a double 125T quick release mooring hook mooring, electrical fitout, handrails and of course the linking walkway.

The 50m long steel access walkway was fabricated by PMG’s in-house fabrication department, and the fabrication accuracy and installation alignment of this structure onto the 4 pre-installed hold down bolts was perfect.

The project was a great success, resulting in a very happy client, with the works completed ahead of program and right on budget.
